Christina Chirulescu

Suddenly This World

In front of Christina Chirulescu’s pictures, any questions that might block our access quickly melt away. Her work is genuinely inviting, engaging, charming, with a fine sense of humour, never loud or dramatic. Painting and drawing play equal parts here, setting the scene for one another and prompting viewers to grasp the process through which any given picture has passed, through to the movement of the artist’s hand holding the brush or pen. In many cases, the picture consists of nothing but such gestures and traces. Chirulescu’s art is allusive, sketch-like, fragmentary and open-ended. Her objects and figures seem to appear suddenly, always marked by grace and fragility.

Christina Chirulescu (born in Sibiu, Romania) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. She lives and works in Nuremberg.
