The destruction of nature, of ecosystems and biodiversity, amounts to the suicide of a civilization. The realization that we have reached the limits of growth dates back to the early 1970s.
It is no coincidence that growing critical awareness of ecological issues has been accompanied by art dealing with natural phenomena, processes and materials – “back to nature” as a programme of aesthetic rejuvenation. This art ranges from Land Art and forensic documentation through to Conceptual art and personal approaches.
